Fun FACTS Friday

By Soni’s Spark Shack

🍽 How did early humans figure out what to eat?

1. Trial and error.
Yes—people definitely died discovering food safety. Others got violently ill and told the tale (or at least groaned it out).

2. Watching animals.
Humans observed which plants animals ate and which they avoided. Though… just because a squirrel can eat it doesn’t mean we can.

3. Smell and taste tests.
Tiny nibbles. Waiting. Seeing what happened. (This is still how some foragers operate today—with extreme caution.)

4. Intergenerational knowledge.
The brave souls who survived their culinary experiments passed it on. And so food traditions, recipes, and warnings were born.

😳 Weird fact:

The cashew is poisonous unless processed correctly.
Same with kidney beans (never eat them raw), and rhubarb leaves.
Yet we somehow figured it out… and then put them in cute little pies.
